Administration - Principal

I come from a family of educators as my grandmother, mother, brother, brother-in-law, and daughter have all been teachers and/or administrators.

My mother was an elementary school teacher for as long as I can remember and therefore instilled in her children the value of a quality education.  My educational philosophy is focused on having a passion to help kids develop a sense of purpose and achievement; to feel good about themselves.  I have a firm belief that any student can succeed, especially when they have someone who believes in them and can guide and support them through challenges and difficulties.  I think the opportunity to learn to persevere through any challenge and to experience success is very important to the growth of a student.

My wife Paula and I look forward to returning to our home state of Montana and to becoming a part of the community of Shelby.  We have two children, Ryan and Courtney.  Ryan works as a financial advisor in Fargo, ND and he and his wife Krista are expecting a son in October, our first grandbaby.   Courtney is teaching English in Daegu, South Korea and thoroughly loves the experience of living abroad, although we miss each other greatly.  I enjoy everything about the outdoors specifically golfing, hiking, running and any activity that includes family.

I have a diverse professional background in business, education, and coaching that will contribute to the enhancement of a successful and positive school atmosphere.  Through these experiences I have acquired skills and abilities in analyzing and interpreting information, coordinating and facilitating processes, implementing policies and providing positive leadership.

My background in business included positions in retail store management and as a wellness operations manager for a large organization in the healthcare industry.  I left healthcare in 2013 to return to education, which is where my true passion of providing a positive influence to students lies.  As an educator I have served in both Montana and Minnesota as a business/computer applications teacher, a head coach in both basketball and track, and as an advisor for various activities.

I have learned that in both education and business it is critical to develop a positive, collaborative relationship with all stakeholders.  As the Principal at Shelby Junior High / High School I will be able to share my passion of being a positive influence for our youth as they strive to achieve their lifelong goals and dreams.
