Erica Allen is a long time Montana educator.
Her early education and career began in business and accounting. This education was then put to use working in State government. There she gained experience with budgets, overseeing personnel, auditing and working with the public. She also learned to work closely with a large and varied staff in achieving goals.
As much as Erica enjoyed working in State government, boredom with accounting eventually set in, leading to a return to school in the pursuit of a degree in Music Education. After earning this degree Erica began work at K. William Harvey Elementary, in Ronan, MT. Her experience there, and the guidance of excellent mentors, laid the foundation for a strong background in school-wide discipline programs, reading and curriculum development and staff collaboration.
Erica's move to 5-12 education came about when she was asked to take over and rebuild a failing music program in another district. This was another exciting adventure, requiring strong collaboration and communication skills. Moving to Fairfield, to live near her husband's family, Erica continued to direct and oversee a strong music program. In directing music programs, Erica has found it critical to maintain the organizational, budgeting and personal relation skills, while adding many curriculum and pedagogical skills.
A proud mother of three, and grandmother of a beautiful granddaughter, Erica also loves spending time in the outdoors cycling and hiking. She and her librarian husband share a love of reading and education. This love of education has guided her in her personal goal of obtaining an Educational Doctorate (Ed.D), with only a thesis remaining. After working in the education field for the past fifteen years, she has gained many insights into the educational world, has never been bored and is excited to bring a strong and varied background to make a difference at Shelby Elementary.
